Introduction

Every product team has prioritisation challenges and not enough product teams prioritise
speaking with customers, the two things go hand in hand. Without speaking to customers in
a meaningful way it makes it difficult prioritising the right things, it’s even harder doing it
without understanding the pain your customers or prospective customers are going through
daily.
Some Product Managers find it hard getting hold of customers to speak with or too heavily
rely on surveys. Gaining credibility through interactional with customers is essential to
making change in an organisation whether that be Product or Culture or both.
I want to give everyone some tips that have really helped me navigate through my first
couple of years at Haven. I’ll be talking through practical examples of using Customer
Insights, addressing Legacy Technology and Building Culture change.

Amit is Head of DeFi Research at Polygon, leading research and development of next-generation DeFi protocols to grow and support the DeFi ecosystem. Amit has experience working at the intersection of cryptocurrency, finance, econometrics, and statistics, with a background in quantitative roles in TradFi firms like JPMorgan Chase and ICICI bank. Drawing on his experience in DeFi, his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Warwick, MA in economics from the Delhi School of Economics, and a Bachelor of Technology from IIT Kanpur. Amit will take us on a journey explaining just exactly what DeFi is.

- people want to achieve something, they want it to work, even if they ‘like it’, attitudes are built up by everything else in their lives, not what we’ve built for them.

- I’ll aim to look at how people form attitudes and belief systems about how tech should work, biases at play that go against what we’re trying to do and how all UX is, is learning a bit about people to make your life easier.

The 1971 film "The Andromeda Strain" (based on the 1969 novel of the same name) was described by the Infectious Diseases Society of America in a 2003 publication as the "most significant, scientifically accurate, and prototypic of all films of this [killer virus] genre... it accurately details the appearance of a deadly agent, its impact, and the efforts at containing it, and, finally, the work-up on its identification and clarification on why certain persons are immune to it."

From a post COVID viewpoint I'm not sure I agree. In this talk we'll be looking at how basic maths can help more than secret state-of-the-art facilities, and how collaboration is better than working in isolation. Featuring a sprinkling of graphs, a handful of Go, and just a soupçon of Dom's sardonic whit we'll learn what a formidable power modern technology can be.

Can you code your way out of a paper bag? What does this even mean? Fran asked herself the same question a long while ago and has been learning and discovering more than you might think possible from such a question.

In this keynote, Fran will explore how to code your way out of a paper bag. We’ll consider possible solutions ranging from cellular automata to diffusion. We’ll see how having a go-to problem to try out new languages, libraries and algorithms can facilitate learning. Simplifying complicated mathematics down to a toy problem often helps you get started, and proving you can code your way out of a paper bag is a handy skill.

The Great British Public Toilet Map is an open source project dedicated to helping people find toilets across the UK. It is the UK's largest database of publicly-accessible toilets, with over 11000 facilities. The Toilet Map is a long running project that has evolved dramatically over the years. In 2021 we took on the challenge of migrating the project from a SPA (single page application) React app to NextJS, a tried and tested framework for server side rendering React. This talk will cover why we decided it was time to migrate, the myriad technical challenges we faced along the way, how this work benefits our users, and the many exciting plans we have for the future.
